Evaluation
For my Graded Unit, I was to design and produce a website to be used as a portfolio of all the work I have completed during my year at Perth College studying the HNC Sound Production course. I had to include all the modules that I studied throughout the year and go into more depth about them, explaining the different outcomes of each module, what I did to pass and what I learned. I was also to relate to a specialist area I would like to further my career in the Audio Industry. I had to include the different parts of the planning I went through before undergoing the Graded Unit; these were a plan, SWOT analysis, Gantt chart and a log book which was updated whilst producing my Graded Unit.
In my plan the Home I planned to do is the exact same as I did, I didn’t change anything there as I just wanted to keep it simple and pleasant and not over clutter it. The next section was the About Me part. When I came round to writing this part I changed it from the plan, instead of including my qualifications, previous education and current employers and skills that I have. I decided to put my full CV into another page within the About Me section for any potential employers to look at. The next section I said I would write about was the modules section. The modules section of my Graded Unit doesn’t differ much from my plan; there were only a couple of things that I changed. Instead of putting in examples of written work into my modules section, I left them out and just put examples of mixes and a video that I did into a different section. I also added a couple of little paragraphs at the bottom of each module explaining what I enjoyed about that module and how it would help me in the future of my chosen career path. In the projects section part of the plan, I said that I would include two videos from Audio for Multimedia, unfortunately I only managed to complete one full video therefore there is only one on my Graded Unit. Apart from that, the rest of what I planned to do is the same. In the Graded Unit part, I said that I would include links to the documents of my plan, SWOT analysis, Gantt chart and evaluation. Instead of that I just copied the documents into the website as pages within the Graded Unit section. The last section which is the Contact section is the same as I planned to do; the only thing that I added to it was three icons (Facebook, YouTube and Sound cloud) which are links to my Facebook, YouTube and Sound cloud accounts.
The only thing that went wrong whilst doing my Graded Unit was when I went into word to paste my modules into Wix and found out that the last few modules that I had completed the weeks prior, were missing. It was a setback for me since I had to write them out again which put me a bit behind and meant I was rushing towards the deadline to redo and finish my folio.
The skills/knowledge that I have gained throughout my experience of doing my Graded Unit and at college are that I have developed my organisational skills, since having so many deadlines for work to be completed. Also my networking and people skills have developed from meeting new people at college and undergoing a mock job interview. I also developed and gained lots of experience with Audio for Multimedia and different DAWs, which I now feel confident to use.
My Graded Unit has a few strengths and weaknesses. I think one of the strengths of my portfolio is the simplistic layout and how everything is easily found and labelled, making it more appealing for potential employers looking through it. Another strength would be that all the information included within it which goes through each outcome and breaks it down into what it entails, this is good as it explains exactly what I did and what skills I learned so that potential employers can see. However, there are a few weaknesses to my portfolio. One of the weaknesses would be that there aren’t many pictures within the modules section; I feel this might make it look a bit boring with there being so much writing.
I think that my Graded Unit has met the original brief to a big extent. I think this because I have included everything I was meant to include plus extra things, like my CV. I also think that I have included all the parts I was meant to by explaining what I liked about certain modules and how they will be useful to me in the future.
